Reading Material | Jiang Yin's Modern Interpretation of Classical Poetics, Beijing: Zhonghua Book Company, 2003. |
Content Overview | In Modern Interpretations of Classical Poetics, Jiang Yin draws from years of experience and accumulated knowledge in classical poetry research, selecting twelve foundational yet dynamic concepts and propositions in classical poetics for clarification and discussion. Concerned that certain topics have been overshadowed by overly broad propositions and that some ambiguous terms pervade our literary theory textbooks and academic works, this book aims to trace the origins and re-examine the connotations of important concepts in Chinese poetics, such as imagery, artistic conception, clarity, qi cheng zhuan he (structure of Chinese poetry), and painting in poetry. Some of these issues have rarely been addressed until now; others, though frequently discussed, are presented from unique perspectives and conclusions, establishing a distinctive viewpoint. Since its initial publication, the book has been widely cited and expanded upon in academic circles, with certain chapters sparking discussions and debates, significantly influencing classical poetics research. Standing in contemporary times, how should we examine and study the vast array of classical materials? This guided reading aims to extract Jiang Yin's scholarly methods and spirit through specialized reading, hoping to provide inspiration and reference for researchers. |
