The twenty-seventh talk of the “Tan Lark Sye Lecture Series” will take place soon. This talk features Dr. Teo Sum Lim from Singapore University of Social Sciences as main speaker. Dr. Teo’s lecture will explore six aspects: involvement in literary awards, serving as a judge for such awards, inclusion in literary series/compilations, submitting work to literary journals, participation in cultural events, and involvement in literary conferences. Through these segments, Dr. Teo will analyze the cross-border exchange of Chinese literature between Singapore and Malaysia since their separation in 1965, covering a span of half a century. |

Dr. Teo Sum Lim (Visiting Lecturer, Department of Chinese, Singapore University of Social Sciences) Dr. Teo Sum Lim holds a Master of Arts in Literature from the National University of Singapore and a Doctor of Philosophy in Literature from Nanyang Technological University. He is currently a visiting lecturer in the Department of Chinese at the Singapore University of Social Sciences. He is the author of the literary criticism collection Empathy of Pure Nature, the specialized study Striving Forward: The Development of the Singapore Writers Association, and the academic work Toward Environmental Ethics: Ecological Writing in Chinese Poetry and Prose in Singapore and Malaysia (1976-2016). He has also served as editor or co-editor of several significant literary anthologies, including The New Chinese Literature Series: Short Stories, The New Chinese Literature Series: Poetry, Thirty Poets from the May Poem Selection, Sentiments for the Lion City: Fifty Years of Selections of Chinese Poetry and Prose, New National Style: A Selection of Modern Chinese Poetry from Singapore, and The Singapore Cultural Award: Selections of Chinese Writers. |

Dr. Wong Siew Jye (Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, Musician, and Writer at New Era University College) Dr. Wong Siew Jye holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Malaya. He has previously served as the Head of the Chinese Language Department at UNITAR, a research fellow at a think tank, a lyricist and composer for Universal Music, and a lecturer for literary creation courses at the University of Malaya. He is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at New Era University College. Dr. Wong has contributed to academic works such as Fourteen Lectures on Malaysian Chinese Literature and Interpretation of Malaysian Chinese Literary Texts. He has also published several novels, including In the Future, Will You Be Well?, The Heartbeat Hidden Beneath the Cold Mecha, Moments Frozen in Time: Are You There?, The White Dwarf Fence, The Hacker Incident Files: The Invisible Killer, Eye of Heaven (3 volumes), and Seeing GModerators, among others. Many of his literary works have been featured in domestic and international literary journals. In addition to his literary achievements, Dr. Wong’s songs and lyrics have been included in albums by well-known domestic and international singers. |

The 27th session of the "Tan Lark Sye Lecture Series," organized by the Institute of International Education, New Era University College (IIE, NEUC) and the Tan Lark Sye Institute, was held on 20 March. The guest speakers for this event was Dr. Teo Sum Lim from Chinese Language Department, Singapore University of Social Sciences. It was attended by more than 110 people.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Teo Sum Lim, holds a master's degree in literature from the National University of Singapore and a PhD in literature from Nanyang Technological University. He is currently a visiting lecturer in the Chinese Language Department at the Singapore University of Social Sciences.
This lecture was titled " An Exploration of Six Domains in the Interaction of Chinese Literature between Singapore and Malaysia, 1965-2015.” He detailed the cross-border exchanges of Chinese literature between the two countries over the past half-century since their separation in 1965, focusing on six arenas: participating in literary awards, serving as judges for literary awards, being included in literary anthologies/readers/collections, submitting works to literary journals, attending/co-hosting cultural events, and participating in literary academic seminars. The event was moderated by Dr. Wong Siew Jye from NEUC. It received enthusiastic feedback, with the audience actively participating in the Q&A session and eagerly engaging in discussions.
