The second lecture in the “International Academic and Cultural Exchange Series” organized by New Era University College and curated by the Institute of International Education was given by Associate Professor Sun Huiying, Associate Dean of the Department of Journalism, School of Journalism and Communication, Xiamen University. The choice of topic and the use of research methodology are the key to a graduate student's dissertation. After scientifically and rationally selecting a topic and defining a research question, the research methodology used by graduate students to make a well-reasoned argument is very important to the quality of the dissertation. When creating a dissertation, graduate students should not only have the awareness of problems, theories, values, innovations, but also the awareness of methods. In this lecture, the speaker will discuss with students how to adapt the dissertation topic and research method with examples to help the dissertation writing. |

Assoc. Prof. Sun Huiying (Associate Dean of the Department of Journalism, School of Journalism and Communication, Xiamen University) Sun Huiying graduated from School of Liberal Arts, Renmin University of China with a PhD degree in literature. She is the deputy director of the Journalism Department of the School of Liberal Arts of Xiamen University, associate professor and master's supervisor, secretary-general of Chinese Association for History of Journalism and Communication, secretary-general of Taiwan and Overseas Chinese Media Committee, special expert of World Chinese Literature and Media Research Centre, and member of Fujian Documentary Film Committee. Media Research Centre, and member of the Documentary Film Committee of Fujian Province. Her main research fields include mobile media culture research, film and television art research, and cultural and creative industry research. The main courses he teaches include film and television language, radio and television interviewing, cultural and creative industries, short video creation, and mobile media culture research. |

Assoc. Prof. Pua Shiau Chen (Institute of International Education, NEUC) Pua Shiau Chen, PhD in Literature, graduated from Zhejiang University in China in 2012, specializing in literature, aesthetics, and Chinese culture, and is currently an Associate Professor in the Institute of International Education at New Era University College. She has published more than ten articles in international academic journals, such as “Qing” and “Qing” music,” “Lamentations and the value of life and death in the Han Dynasty,” “The poetic construction and meaning of Qu Yuan's “Tour,” etc. She has also published more than ten papers in national and international academic conferences. Dr. Pan has a wealth of experience in lecturing and has delivered more than thirty academic lectures. |
