From Data to Conclusion: How to Write the Findings, Discussion, and Conclusion Sections of Empirical Research? Associate Professor Dr. Teoh Hee Chong Provides an In-Depth Analysis of the Writing Logic Behind Findings, Discussion, and Conclusion to Strengthen Academic Argumentation Skills

New Era University College (NEUC) organised the 16th session of its Bridging Ideas: Research Workshop Series on 29 October 2026, featuring a talk titled “From Data to Conclusion: How to Write Findings, Discussion, and Conclusion Sections of Empirical Research?” was delivered by Associate Professor Dr. Teoh Hee Chong from the Institute of International Education, New Era University College and attracted approximately 120 participants via the ZOOM platform.

During the session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Teoh provided an in-depth explanation of the three core chapters of an empirical research thesis: Findings, Discussion, and Conclusion. He emphasised that while researchers may complete their data analysis, the real challenge lies in transforming research results into meaningful and academically valuable arguments. Research findings should clearly address the research questions, while the discussion section should extend the interpretation of the results and engage with existing literature, rather than merely repeating the data. These three components are closely interconnected and together form a comprehensive chain of academic reasoning.

The Q&A session was lively and engaging, with participants actively raising questions and exchanging ideas. In addition to explaining the writing logic behind the three key chapters, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Teoh also discussed the characteristics and applications of different research approaches, including empirical research, field research, and literature-based research. The one-and-a-half-hour workshop concluded successfully amid enthusiastic interaction and fruitful academic discussions.
