The 3rd Cross-regional and Interdisciplinary Graduate International Conference Successfully Held, with 104 Participants Presenting Their Research Findings
The 3rd Cross-regional and Interdisciplinary Graduate International Conference, organised by the Institute of International Education (IIE) of New Era University College, was held from 15 to 16 August 2026 at the Nantah Building. The two-day seminar attracted 104 graduate students, who actively participated in academic presentations and exchanges, marking a significant increase in participation compared with previous editions.
Sharing Research Methods, Broadening Academic Perspectives
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tey Shi Bin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International and Corporate Development) cum Dean, Institute of International Education (IIE), said the seminar was organised to provide graduate students with a platform to showcase their academic work and adapt to the demands of academic research. She emphasised that academic research requires not only individual dedication but also meaningful exchange and dialogue. Cross-regional and interdisciplinary discussions can broaden academic perspectives while enhancing analytical and communication skills. She encouraged participants to engage openly with scholars from different fields, learn from diverse research approaches, and further refine their research ideas.
Dr. Amily Guénier, Senior Lecturer in Pharmacy & Health Services Research at The University of Manchester, delivered a keynote presentation titled “Bridging the Drift: How Interdisciplinary Research Mediates Tradition into Innovation for Human-centred Healthcare in the Age of AI.” Focusing on traditional science, language and culture, and artificial intelligence, she examined how linguistic and cultural factors influence the accuracy and reliability of AI-generated pharmaceutical knowledge. Dr. Amily Guénier noted that AI still faces limitations in personalisation and the integration of linguistic and cultural factors. She emphasised that interdisciplinary research requires both cross-disciplinary expertise and sustained dialogue and collaboration among researchers.
International Journal Submission Guidance: Research Quality is Key
The two-day seminar covered a diverse range of disciplines, including Sinology, Education, Cultural Studies, Contemporary China Studies, Business Administration, Literature, and Arts and Aesthetics. A dedicated workshop, “From Research to Publication: Navigating Scopus and WoS Journals” was also held as part of the seminar. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Ooi Kok Loang, Adjunct Professor (City Graduate School) at City University Malaysia. Drawing on his extensive research and publication experience, Dr. Ooi shared how to develop research ideas into manuscripts and publications, systematically explaining academic writing approaches and journal review requirements to improve the chances of acceptance by Scopus and Web of Science-indexed journals and provide participants with practical submission guidance.
After two days of enriching academic presentations, expert exchanges and intellectual discussions, participants gained valuable insights. The organiser will continue to provide platforms for graduate academic exchange and support the publication of their research findings.
