NEUC and SCAU Advance China-Malayisa Industry–Academia–Research Collaboration in Agricultural Education
On 31st July 2026, A delegation from South China Agricultural University (SCAU) visited New Era University College (NEUC) to further strengthen academic exchange and collaboration in agricultural education between Malaysia and China. During the visit, both institutions engaged in in-depth discussions on agricultural education, talent cultivation, technology transfer, research innovation, and future areas of collaboration, while exploring opportunities to promote the development of agricultural education and industry in both countries.
As part of the visit, representatives from both institutions toured QL Poultry Farms, one of Malaysia's leading agricultural enterprises, where they gained first-hand insight into the operations of a modern layer poultry farm. The visit also provided an opportunity for discussions on agricultural education, talent development, and academia–industry collaboration, enabling both parties to better understand the current landscape and needs of Malaysia's agricultural sector.
During the meeting, representatives introduced their respective developments and internationalisation initiatives. Prof. Dr. Mok Soon Chong, Vice-Chancellor of NEUC, shared that the University College is actively planning the establishment of a Faculty of Agriculture.
By integrating China's advanced agricultural technologies with the needs of Malaysia's agricultural industry, the proposed faculty aims to cultivate agricultural professionals equipped with both global perspectives and practical competencies, thereby supporting the transformation and sustainable development of the local agricultural sector.
Both institutions also exchanged views on the development of joint talent cultivation programmes and explored the feasibility of leveraging industry resources to provide scholarships, internships and employment opportunities for students. These initiatives are intended to establish a talent development model that closely integrates higher education with industry needs. In addition, both parties expressed their aspiration to promote the commercialisation and application of research outcomes to accelerate the advancement of smart, efficient and sustainable agricultural practices.
The exchange further reinforced the long-standing partnership between the two institutions and laid a solid foundation for future collaboration in inter-university partnerships, academic–industry engagement, and agricultural science and technology exchange, while jointly contributing to the advancement of agricultural education and industry development between Malaysia and China.
The SCAU delegation was led by Ms. Guo Zhuo, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Animal Science, and comprised Assoc. Prof. Zhang Zebin, Mr. Huang Guosheng, and five student representatives. The NEUC delegation was led by Prof. Dr. Mok Soon Chong, Vice-Chancellor of NEUC, together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Liew Siew Boon, Assistant Dean of the Institute of International Education, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ng Khai Boon, Head of Department of International Academic Exchange Office, and Ms. Chin Wai Ching, Lecturer of the Institute of International Education. Representing QL Resources Berhad were Mr. Mark Chia, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Integrated Livestock Farming), Mr. Chia Seong Pow, Chief Operating Officer, and Mr. Steve Leong, Assistant General Manager, together with the management team.
