2025 University & National Secondary School Students Competition on Idioms and Chinese Culture Organised by New Era University College

Organised by New Era University College and jointly coordinated by the Institute of International Education and the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, the “2025 University Competition on Idioms and Chinese Culture” and the “2025 National Secondary School Students Competition on Idioms and Chinese Culture” were successfully conducted online on 21 and 22 December.

The competitions aimed to promote outstanding traditional Chinese culture, advance Chinese-language education, and stimulate young students’ interest in learning the Chinese language and Chinese culture. The contest content covered multiple dimensions, including idiom comprehension, general knowledge of Chinese culture, and language application, providing a comprehensive assessment of students’ Chinese language proficiency. The organisers hoped that participants would appreciate the beauty of the Chinese language through the study of idioms and further enhance their enthusiasm for and identification with Chinese-language learning. The organisers also stated that similar cultural competitions will continue to be held in the future, creating more platforms for young learners to study and exchange ideas on Chinese culture, and injecting new vitality into the promotion of Chinese-language education.

The response to the competition was remarkably positive, with approximately 1,250 national secondary school students and currently enrolled undergraduate students of New Era University College registering to participate, reflecting the strong attention given to idiom learning and Chinese cultural education in schools. In terms of awards, the organisers selected the top 13 scorers from both the secondary school category and the university category, presenting them with cash prizes and certificates as encouragement.
