On 26 June 2025The Confucius Foundation of China has officially issued a letter of approval for the establishment of the “Confucius Hub at New Era University College (NEUC)” in Malaysia. This milestone not only marks a significant step in the promotion of Chinese traditional culture in Southeast Asia but also opens a new platform for cultural exchange between China and Malaysia.

According to the official announcement released on 6 June 2025, the “Confucius Hub at NEUC” has received formal approval and will operate in full compliance with the Administrative Measures for Overseas Confucius Hubs issued by the Confucius Foundation of China. The hub will conduct a wide range of activities, including Chinese language education, cultural lectures, and artistic exhibitions, to strengthen cultural identity and a sense of belonging among overseas Chinese communities.

NEUC stands as one of Malaysia’s top three Chinese higher education institutions. It is known for its strong foundation in Chinese language education, a highly qualified teaching team, and a steadfast dedication to preserving Chinese cultural heritage. Since launching its Institute of International Education in 2019, the university has actively built a growing network of global partnerships. In 2020, it earned dual recognition from the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE) and the Ministry of Education of China’s Study Abroad Service Platform. Today, NEUC is home to more than 900 international students from countries including China, the United States, Indonesia, India, Laos, Vietnam, and Thailand.

It has also signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with over 180 universities worldwide, promoting broad academic, cultural, and educational exchanges. Prof. Dr. Mok Soon Chong, Vice-Chancellorof NEUC, affirmed the university’s founding mission: “To establish a high-quality Chinese university and to preserve and promote Chinese culture.” He further emphasised the institution’s commitment to integrating Chinese and Western educational values while nurturing a multicultural and regionally rooted institution that reflects the rich heritage of Southeast Asia.

The Confucius Hub will be located on the NEUC campus and is envisioned as a regional hub for Chinese education. The Confucius Foundation of China will serve as the host organization, while NEUC will act as the implementing partner, jointly ensuring the efficient development and sustainable operation of the hub. Upon completion, the Confucius Classroom will launch a series of educational and cultural programs.
