“International Academic and Cultural Exchange Series” – Session 4: Dr. Liu Liuhan: Patterns of the Tang Dynasty: Cultural Genes and Research Paths of Animal Motifs in Textiles
Introduction | Organized by New Era University College and planned by the Institute of International Education, the "International Academic and Cultural Exchange Series" lectures will be held periodically in 2025. The series invites distinguished scholars and experts from both domestic and international institutions who have made significant achievements in their research fields. The fourth lecture in this series will be delivered by Dr. Liu Liuhan from Chongqing Technology and Business University, China. Her lecture is titled "Patterns of the Tang Dynasty: Cultural Genes and Research Paths of Animal Motifs in Textiles”. This lecture will deconstruct current research findings on animal motifs in Tang dynasty textile and apparel patterns, outlining their historical context, typological lineage, and artistic paradigms. It will also uncover the underlying ritual-cultural genes and cross-regional transmission logic. Furthermore, the lecture will review the research methodology, offering both methodological insights and innovative inspiration for traditional pattern studies. |
Speaker | Dr. Liu LiuhanDr. Liu Liuhan is a full-time faculty member at the School of Modern International Art Design Academy, Chongqing Technology and Business University. She holds a bachelor's degree in Fashion Design and Engineering from Sichuan University, a master's degree in Fashion Design from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan, Italy, and a Ph.D. in Chinese Studies with a focus on Chinese Art and Aesthetics from New Era University College in Malaysia, where she was awarded for an outstanding doctoral dissertation. |
Moderator | Dr. Pua Shiau ChenDr. Pua Shiau Chen is currently an Associate Professor at the Institute of International Education, New Era University College, Malaysia. She holds a Ph.D. in Literature, with research expertise in poetics, aesthetics, and cultural studies. She has published over thirty academic articles in both domestic and international journals, such as "An Examination of the Concept of 'Qing' and 'Qing Music'," "The Poetic Construction and Implications of Qu Yuan's 'Wandering'," "Celestial Imagery in 'Odes of Jiaomiao," and "The Humor and Satirical Aesthetics in Huang Yao’s Folk Paintings." She has also presented more than thirty papers at academic conferences both locally and internationally. In addition, she has contributed to the compilation of the Encyclopedia of Buddhist Culture in Hangzhou and is currently a member of the Malaysia Design Council. |
