Professor Sun Yanming, Vice President of GZHU, noted that Guangzhou, as the historical starting point of the ancient Maritime Silk Road, shares deep historical ties with the Malay Peninsula. He highlighted the university's establishment of the Leading Lab of the Maritime Silk Road Research as a platform for advancing diversified international cooperation. He expressed a strong interest in developing practical collaborations with NEUC in academic development, cultural exchange, and international Chinese language education, aiming to achieve mutual benefits through resource sharing and complementary strengths.
Professor Dr. Mok Soon Chong, Vice-Chancellor of NEUC, emphasized that Malaysia’s well-preserved Chinese culture and comprehensive Chinese education system provide a solid foundation for bilateral cooperation. He affirmed that NEUC and GZHU will jointly promote research on Maritime Silk Road culture, engage in scientific collaboration, and cultivate talent to support regional cultural exchange and development. He also reflected on the historical experiences of the Chinese diaspora in Malaysia, who, after migrating southward, remained committed to preserving Chinese culture and education—creating a unique cultural bond that fosters collaboration between the two institutions.
This visit and the signing of the international cooperation agreement mark a new stage in the partnership between the two universities. Looking ahead, both institutions will explore interdisciplinary research in areas such as Maritime Silk Road studies, cultural heritage preservation, and the integration of arts and artificial intelligence—further strengthening academic cooperation and cultural exchange between Malaysia and China.
