Introduction
Basic Chinese Language
Basic Chinese Language, formerly under the Department of Chinese Language & Literature, was reorganized and placed under the Institute of International Education in September 2020, to serve students who are not fluent in Chinese or whose first language is not Chinese, with the aim of enhancing students' awareness of Chinese language and culture in order to enable them to communicate with their peers in a Chinese-based learning environment using basic Chinese.
English Course
International students studying in Malaysia need to meet the English language qualification requirements in addition to their academic qualifications. The EIC English program was established by the Institute of International Education and the English Department to assist students in obtaining the required English language qualification for their entry into academic programmes and was later replaced by the CIEP English programme sponsored by the Institute of International Education and the ELS Language Center when the English Department was disbanded.
Basic Japanese Course
To cultivate student’s language learning abilities and promote cultural and academic exchanges between Malaysia and Japan, Institute of International Education launched a Basic Japanese course in 2024. This course provides a comprehensive learning experience of 160 hours for students with no basic knowledge, which is personally instructed by experienced Japanese teachers proficient in Chinese. The curriculum covers topics such as hiragana, katakana, 600-700 Japanese words, basic grammar, and aims to develop students' proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Japanese. After completing the course, students will have the opportunity to further their studies in Japan.
