Registration and Orientation Day for Diploma, Undergraduate, and MBA International Students September 2024 Intake

Institute of International Education (IIE) of New Era University College (NEUC) hosted the “Registration and Orientation Day for Diploma, Undergraduate, and MBA International Students September 2024 Intake” on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 to welcome the new international students. This event aimed to bridge the gap for new students as they integrate into campus life, marking the beginning of their academic journey at NEUC.

In the welcoming speech, Ms. Lee Hui Wen, Head of the International Student Services Centre, emphasised that a fulfilling study-abroad experience is not only about learning inside the classroom but also about stepping out and actively participating in various on- and off-campus activities, exploring the broader world beyond the school. She stated, “A university should not only be an ivory tower but also a sanctuary for developing critical thinking. Students must learn to proactively seek and verify answers through their own efforts.” In addition, she introduced Malaysia's multicultural background and unique features, such as the languages and traditional cuisines of various ethnic groups. She encouraged students to be bold and try the diverse local foods to gain a deeper understanding and experience of Malaysia’s culture.

To assist the new international students in quickly adapting to campus life, Ms. Wong Jing Yin, Ms. Wee Wen Sxuan, and Ms. Chua Su Ping, Education Programme Specialists, introduced the new students to campus resources and services. During the programme briefing, Ms. Wong Jing Yin provided a detailed explanation of academic requirements, learning information, and important guidelines, ensuring that the students are well-prepared for their upcoming studies.

Ms. Yap Seow Yu, Head of the Language and Intercultural Centre, led the group in a light hearted and engaging “Malay Language Workshop”, where the international students practiced simple daily conversations in Malay, and participated in interactive games with the staff of IIE.

To give new students a firsthand experience of the local rich customs and culture, Ms. Ng Wan Keng, staff of International Student Services Centre, led them on a trip to Hometown Hot Soup, the famous restaurant in Kajang, to enjoy authentic local cuisine. Additionally, they visited one of Malaysia's iconic landmarks, the Putra Mosque, for a half-day tour, where they appreciated the architectural beauty of the mosque and gained deeper insights into the history and traditions of Islamic culture.

This orientation event not only allowed the new international students to experience unique cultural activities but also immersed them in an vibrant atmosphere of multicultural exchange. It served as the prelude to their study-abroad journey and their first steps toward a new chapter.
