New Era University College International Students Explore the Charm of Bentong Town and Raub Durian Orchard
On August 4, 2024, the staff and international students of the Institute of International Education, New Era University College embarked on an unforgettable day trip to the quaint town of Bentong and the durian-scented, traditional craftsmanship town of Raub.
The event was led by Ms. Lee Hui Wen, Head of the International Student Service Centre; Ms. Phang Hui Ting, Head of the International Student Recruitment Office and Education Programme specialists Mr. Yap Wei Shen and Ms. Chua Su Ping together, they guided the students through a leisure journey that intertwined gastronomy and culture.
On the day of the event, the students started their morning with breakfast at the Bentong market, where they enjoyed authentic local food and immersed themselves in the vibrant local atmosphere. Next, under the guidance of Mr. Lu Yuee Thing, Board member of New Era University College, they visited the Uncle Thing Durian Leisure Farm. Here, they learned about various types of durians and their cultivation methods, and enjoyed fresh durians, savoring the unique flavor of Malaysia’s “king of fruits.”
In the afternoon, the students visited the famous Bukit Koman Chai Tofu factory & Peanut factory in Raub, where they gained insight into the traditional production processes of tofu and peanut products. They then proceeded to the Tras Road Guang Yin Temple in Raub to experience local religious culture. The day concluded with a visit to a decades-old ice cream shop, Kedai Kopi Tan Kow Po in Bentong, where they enjoyed refreshing ice creams, adding a sweet touch to their fulfilling trip. Finally, they had a sumptuous dinner at Garden View Restaurant, Bukit Tinggi wrapping up the day’s activities with a perfect ending.
This event not only allowed the international students to experience Malaysian cuisine and culture but also fostered connections and friendships among them, creating a unique and wonderful memory in their study life in Malaysia.
