Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration in Overseas Homeland
The fullest moon shines on Mid-Autumn Festival, and joyful reunions are held at New Era University College.
On September 8, 2020, the Institute of International Education (IIE) at New Era University College hosted a "Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration in Overseas Homeland" at Concourse Area, welcoming nearly 30 international students to experience the warmth of the Mid-Autumn Festival despite being far from home.
Vice-Chancellor of NEUC, Professor Dr. Mok Soon Chong emphasized the importance of reunions during the Mid-Autumn Festival, noting that the festive atmosphere was palpable despite the official day being two days away. Additionally, Dean of IIE, Associate Professor Dr. Tey Shi Bin, shared that this was her first Mid-Autumn Festival celebrated at New Era University College with students from China and Laos, and she complimented her colleagues for their dedicated efforts in making the event a success.
During the celebration, the IIE prepared a variety of foods, including mooncakes, pomelos, sunflower seeds, and tea. To enhance the festive atmosphere, they also arranged musical performances, creating a rich Mid-Autumn ambiance. The event featured lantern riddles, a lantern parade, and a lucky draw. Despite a sudden downpour interrupting the lantern parade, activities were moved indoors, where guests continued to chat, enjoy mooncakes, and participate in the lucky draw. Special guests for the draw included Vice-Chancellor of NEUC, Professor Dr. Mok Soon Chong, Dean of IIE, Associate Professor Dr. Tey Shi Bin, and Director of Student Affairs department Mr. Tay Keng Lee. The evening concluded with the lucky draw, leaving everyone with a sense of joy and fulfilment.
