To warmly welcome a new cohort of international students embarking on their academic journey, the Institute of International Education (IIE) of New Era University College (NEUC) hosted the “July 2026 Commencement Ceremony for International Postgraduate Students” on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, in the B500 Auditorium.

Prof. Dr. Mok Soon Chong, Vice-Chancellor of NEUC, delivered his speech. He encouraged the international students to actively integrate into local life and take the initiative to learn the language, transforming the experience of studying abroad into a motivation for exploration. He emphasized the importance of building resilience in the face of challenges and drawing nourishment from Malaysia’s vibrant multicultural tapestry. Furthermore, he noted that shifting one's space and perspective can spark academic inspiration and enrich life experiences, ultimately opening up a broader global outlook.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tey Shi Bin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International & Corporate Development), encouraged the international students with four ancient Chinese maxims. She expressed her hope that the students would cultivate deep academic expertise while maintaining an inquiring mind, build resilience in the face of adversity, and stay focused and composure in their pursuit of knowledge. Furthermore, she urged them to hold fast to their convictions, pursue their ideals, and press forward with unwavering determination throughout their academic journey.

Representing the new cohort, Zheng Shudan, a PhD student from China, shared that her decision to choose NEUC stems from the commitment to preserving the heritage of Chinese education, its role as an academic bridge connecting China, Malaysia, and ASEAN, and its founding ethos of "From society, for society." Representing the incoming cohort, she expressed their dedication to grounding themselves in their respective disciplines, actively fostering cross-cultural exchanges, and applying their knowledge to serve the community.

To create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, the ceremony featured a variety of cultural performances, including a violin solo, vocal solo, and vocal performances— all showcasing the richness of multiculturalism and heartfelt blessings from senior students. The event also included an academic and administrative briefing session to help newcomers understand academic regulations, campus resources, and administrative procedures, easing their transition into university life. 

The ceremony ended with a group photo session filled with warmth and solemnity. The IIE remains dedicated to advancing international education, fostering an inclusive and diverse academic environment, and building meaningful bridges of intercultural exchange for international students.
