New Era University College Delegation Visits South China Agricultural University

On 12 May 2025, Professor Dr. Mok Soon Chong, Vice-Chancellor of New Era University College(NEUC), led a delegation to South China Agricultural University(SCAU) to engage in in-depth discussions on strengthening inter-university cooperation and jointly establishing a China-Malaysia Agricultural Exchange Platform. The visit aimed to seize the opportunities presented by the Belt and Road education cooperation initiative and promote joint development in agricultural research innovation and talent cultivation systems.

The representatives from NEUC also included: Assistant Professor Dr. Loong Ying Tai, Head of the Department of Engineering, Faculty of Computer and Innovative Technology; and Ms. Ang Yi Huan, Secretary of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International and Corporate Development). The representatives from SCAU included: Professor Dr. Chen Letian, Vice President; Professor Zhang Jiaen, Director of the Office of International Relations (Office for Hong Kong, Macao & Taiwan Affairs); Professor Xie Qingmei, Dean of the College of Animal Science; and Ms. Xiao Yuhan, Deputy Director of the Office of International Relations (Office for Hong Kong, Macao & Taiwan Affairs).

Professor Dr. Chen Letian, Vice President of SCAU, welcomed the delegation on behalf of the university. He noted that SCAU holds significant strengths in subtropical agricultural research, with its achievements in ecological farming and smart agriculture highly compatible with Malaysia’s agricultural environment. As Malaysia assumes the ASEAN chairmanship, both institutions are well-positioned to enhance agricultural research collaboration and share educational resources, fostering technology transfer and joint development of academic disciplines.

Professor Dr. Mok Soon Chong, Vice-Chancellor of NEUC emphasized that the university is actively working to establish a modern agricultural education system and is eager to learn from SCAU’s century-long experience in education. He proposed that both institutions deepen collaboration in response to the agricultural modernization needs of Malaysia and China, through joint research, faculty training, and co-development of curricula — particularly by exploring innovative models in university-industry integration and the establishment of an agricultural faculty.

During the meeting, both sides engaged in in-depth exchanges on educational philosophies and the current status of academic development. They also shared views on specific areas such as technology transfer and university-industry resource integration, expressing hope to strengthen bilateral ties through closer communication and cooperation.

Following the meeting, the delegation from NEUC visited the university’s History Museum and the National Regional Gene Bank for Livestock and Poultry and the Guangdong Provincial Livestock and Poultry Germplasm Resource Bank, both established by the College of Animal Science.
