July 2024 Commencement Ceremony for International Student

New Semester, New Hopes. On July 24, 2024 (Wednesday), Institute of International Education hosted the " July 2024 Commencement Ceremony for International Student" at the Ng Ah Choo Multipurpose Hall, New Era University College. On this day, faculty, staff, and nearly 120 graduate and doctoral international students gathered to welcome the new students.

Professor Dr. Mok Soon Chong, Vice-Chancellor of New Era University College, opened the ceremony with a lighthearted greeting in Malay language, warmly welcoming the new students. He highlighted Malaysia's rich multicultural environment, where diverse cultures, languages, ethnicities, and religions coexist harmoniously. Despite its multiculturalism, Malaysians actively learn each other's languages and work towards common goals. Additionally, Malaysia is unique in Southeast Asia for its comprehensive Chinese education system. He encouraged the international students to embrace the opportunity to experience Malaysia’s inclusive and integrated society.

Associate Professor Dr.Tey Shi Bin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International and Corporate Development) of New Era University College emphasized the college's commitment to a student-centered approach, balancing rigorous academic standards with flexible administration while maintaining both warmth and professionalism. She encouraged the international students to approach their studies with a calm and focused mindset, to fully engage in academic research, and to enjoy their campus life. She also advised them to seek support from the Institute of International Education staff if they face any challenges in their academic or personal lives.

New student representative Cheng Shaoxu praised New Era University College for its 26 years of dedication to maintaining a complete Chinese education system from its inception as a graduate school to its current status as a university college. This commitment was a key factor in his decision to study here. He expressed his hopes for a successful academic journey and a memorable experience during his studies.

Assistant Professor Dr. Lew Siew Boon, Head of International Academic Exchange Office, provided important information about academic procedures and encouraged students to engage in various academic activities and exchanges to enhance their skills and knowledge. Lee Hui Wen, Head of the International Student Services Centre, introduced students to local Malaysian culture, food, accommodation, transportation, and healthcare services, helping them to better understand and integrate into Malaysian society and make the most of their time here.

The orientation included performances by international and local students, as well as the campus singers team featuring captivating singing, dancing, and instrumental music. The event also offered a variety of local foods, including Chinese, Malay, and Indian dishes, allowing students to experience Malaysia’s diverse culture. The ceremony concluded with a group photo, marking a warm and memorable end to the event.
