May 2024 Orientation Day and "Learn English Through Movies" Cultural Exchange Event for International Students

The Institute of International Education (IIE) held the "May 2024 Orientation Day and 'Learn English Through Movies' Cultural Exchange Event for International Students" on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, to welcome the new students.

The Head of International Student Service Centre, Ms. Lee Hui Wen, emphasized in her welcome speech that New Era University College adheres to the principles of campus autonomy, academic freedom, and student self-governance. She stressed the importance of developing self-governance and responsibility as university students and encouraged the new students to step out of their comfort zones, face challenges, and achieve personal growth and independence.

Furthermore, Ms. Lee mentioned that the IIE will be organizing a variety of exciting activities, including cultural tours, team-building events, and festival celebrations. These events will provide students with opportunities to experience local culture and enhance their study abroad experience. Additionally, she shared information about Malaysia's diverse ethnic groups, cultures, and languages, and discussed safety precautions, encouraging students to actively adapt to their new environment.

Next, Education Programme Specialist, Ms. Wee Wen Sxuan, introduced the IIE staff to the new students and encouraged them to stay in touch with the IIE. Additionally, Education Programme Specialist, Ms. Wong Jing Yin explained academic guidelines and campus resources to help students. The new students then introduced themselves to get to know each other better. The event concluded with a group photo of the IIE staff and new students, marking the successful end of Orientation Day.

Following this, the IIE invited current international students to participate in the "Learn English Through Movies" cultural exchange activity with the new students. This event helped them meet more peers and foster interaction. After the movie, students participated in fun games, answering questions related to the film in English, combining entertainment with learning and ensuring a fruitful experience.
