May Semester - International Undergraduate and Graduate Student Orientation and Dragon Boat Festival Tea Party

The Fragrance of Dumplings: New Era University College International Students Share Their Study Abroad Experiences and Celebrate Together!

The Institute of International Education (IIE) hosted an Orientation Day for international undergraduate and graduate students for the May 2023 semester, along with a heart-warming Dragon Boat Festival celebration. International students enjoyed playing games and sampling various types of Malaysian dumplings. The event provided memorable experiences for the students under the guidance of Ms. Lee Hui Wen. Assistant Professor Dr. Liew Siew Boon, Head of International Academic Exchange Office, shared her memories of celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival during her studies in China. She highlighted that the unique dumpling culture in each region of China allowed her to taste various types of dumplings during the festival.

During the event, the Institute of International Education (IIE) organized several activities to enhance interaction and bonding among undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral international students. They also set up a special "Dragon Boat Festival Tea Party" in the Rainbow Corridor, offering a selection of local specialty dumplings for the international students to savour.

Yan Yinghan, a master's student in Education from China, enjoyed participating in the event. He appreciated both the games and the Nyonya dumplings, particularly curious about the spices that gave them such an enticing aroma. The three-hour event fostered lively interactions between New Era University College staff and international students, concluding with a group photo.
