Winter Solstice Celebration with Creative Rice Dumplings
As the year draws to an end, we embrace the season of winter and enjoy joyful reunions with international students.
The Winter Solstice is a traditional Chinese festival. Despite the absence of the four seasons in Malaysia, the tradition of celebrating the Winter Solstice is still valued and practiced by the Chinese community, continuing through generations.
In celebration of the Winter Solstice, the Institute of International Education hosted a "Winter Solstice Celebration with Creative Rice Dumplings" event on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. International students were invited to join in making tangyuan and experiencing the festive atmosphere of "small reunions."
According to the saying, "In the south, people eat tangyuan; in the north, people eat dumplings." Most of the international students participating in this event were from northern China. Celebrating the Winter Solstice in 30-degree heat by making and eating tangyuan was a unique experience for them. Besides traditional red and white tangyuan, the students showcased their creativity with matcha and purple sweet potato tangyuan, filled with peanut and coconut sugar. Served with hot soy milk, these tangyuan offered a new and delightful taste experience, thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.
